The Fifth Annual Snowplow Naming Contest hosted by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is now open and will run through Friday, Dec. 6, 2024. SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The fifth annual South Dakota Department of Transportation Snowplow Naming Contest is now open.
South Dakotans are invited to come up with their best blizzard puns and plow-themed names to submit.
Over the last four years, the contest has drawn 700 submissions on average per year.
Past winning names include Plow Bunyan, Saltosaurus Rex, Not My First Snowdeo and Clearapathera.

South Dakota Department of Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt and Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken were joined by federal, state, and local leaders to highlight the opening of the Interstate 229 and Benson Road Diverging Diamond Interchange in Sioux Falls on Friday.
The interchange is now functioning in each direction as a one-lane DDI. Additional lanes of traffic through the interchange will be open before the entire project is completed in June 2025.

The ribbon cutting was held at 10:00 am in the parking lot of the Sanford Business Center.
