Ribbon cutting held for I-229 and Benson Road Diverging Diamond - Dakota News Now 10/25/2024

City and state leaders gathered Friday to celebrate the opening of the Interstate 229 and Benson Road Diverging Diamond.

The ribbon cutting was held at 10:00 am in the parking lot of the Sanford Business Center.

South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) Secretary Joel Jundt and Sioux Falls Mayor Paul Ten Haken were joined by federal, state, and local leaders to celebrate.

This is the second DDI in Sioux Falls to become fully operational this year, following the opening of the Interstate 29 and 41st Street DDI in July 2024.

The interchange aims to help enhance safety, reduce intersection delays, and address future travel needs and growth.

The project included more than $36.3 million in roadway improvements, including three left turn lanes on the I-229 northbound off-ramp and dual right turn lanes.
