South Dakota Transportation Commission Awards $4 Million in Economic Development Grants - KXLG 12/19/2024
{KXLG – South Dakota} The South Dakota Transportation Commission has awarded approximately $4 million in economic development grants to various communities across the state. These grants aim to improve roads leading to key areas such as schools, main business districts, hospitals, grain elevators, and other economic centers. The grants can cover up to 80 percent of construction costs, with a maximum grant amount of $600,000.
Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt stated, "These economic development grants are a core component of financial assistance the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) provides local governments to improve infrastructure. By awarding the grant dollars, many rural communities are able to further advance economic development for their residents."
Community Access Grants (Awarded November 26, 2024):
- City of Eagle Butte: $600,000 for Landmark Avenue, serving a business area.
- City of Elkton: $430,000 for Elk Street, serving a business area.
- City of Lennox: $600,000 for East Oriole Avenue, serving the middle and high schools and a business area.
- City of Springfield: $600,000 for 11th, Ash, and Oak Streets, serving the school area.
- City of Winner: $600,000 for Monroe and Van Buren Streets, serving a business area.
Agri-Business Grants (Awarded December 19, 2024):
- Blom Township: $450,000 for 190th Street, serving the Wildrose Dairy.
- Clay County: $600,000 for 313th Street, serving the Southeast Farmers Coop.
- Hamlin County: $132,500 for 459th Street, serving County Line Dairy.
